I didn’t plan to be mysterious yesterday, just wordless! My picture was of a wooden block made for William Morris prints such as this one.
Not a very good image I’m afraid. Here some more wooden blocks.
I was especially interested because I’ve recently had a dabble at block printing onto fabric, very basic but fun. I also saw this lovely tiled panel, I can never resist blue tiles.
This sums up Morris’s take on design.
Cool eh?
You can learn more on the Morris website, the company is still creating gorgeous traditional design.

I’m impressed you’ve taken up block printing, Gilly. I loved the block prints – and the blocks, some very beautiful in their own right – I saw in India. I always thought it would be fun to do, if only I could draw well enough to create a block I like.
way cool, I have always liked his work! what fun to be doing some block printing, I imagine there are endless possibilities for modular designs 🙂
If we had a residential Be Creative Weekend would you be tempted to join us? Just a thought that’s fermenting……
I like the idea very much but it would depend on cost and location, times are hard!
Yes, I know they are…… for us too 😦 I’m working on it….
The designs are so beautiful, Gilly. Thanks for explaining your pic. I know it can be very frustrating not being allowed to add an explanation on WW, and sometimes, I cheat. 🙂
Love W Morris….he brought beauty to the everyday 🙂
Love William Morris’ stuff! How cool is it to be block printing?
Yaay you, Gilly 🙂
Beautiful and thanks for sharing! He is new to me.
So that was a wooden block? I see.
I haven’t heard of block painting. Always something new to learn here, Gilly. Aren’t you full of lovely surprises? Very cool. 😀
how cool that you are block printing! looking forward to seeing some of your creations in a future post (no pressure of course)!
Oh it’s really basic stuff!
The tile panel is gorgeous! You’d love Portugal, Gilly 🙂
Thanks for introducing us to William Morris. Sounds like a stand-up guy like me. 😀 Probably much much much than me but who’s measuring. 😀
What beautiful designs!! I adore block prints. Hadn’t hear of Morris either. See, an education every visit! 🙂
