Late summer calling
with the lowest hum of heat,
from earth and from air.
Hay harvested, the soil waits
for a thunderstorm to break.
Deep colour spectrum
scribbled with arachnid silk.
Textured rays, fibres
terra pots disintegrate
and crumble back to grey dust.
Tish took and edited this fascinating photo, which she named ‘Through a Web Darkly’, and very kindly offered it as inspiration for our writing. I’d written this before I had a reply with permission to post! Isn’t it a good image? I love it, thanks Tish.
Stilt stands listening
with its sixth sense on alert
stamping its pink feet
divining oysters for lunch
from beneath the brackish pool
inquisitive eyes
watching waiting full of hope
for just the one chance
to spread its wings and soar high
on a swift flight to freedom
Fallow deer at rest
replete with summers bounty
proud of your palmate antlers
and your silky dappled skin
fit prize for a big eyed doe
effervescent fizz
of the salt stinging ocean
winter or summer
giving or taking away
our lives daily leftovers
