The Adoration of the magi by Leonardo da Vinci has been on display this summer at the Uffizi gallery in Florence. I was able see it in the last few days before the exhibit ended.
You can read more about it here, and see it before it was transformed.
Does the ‘unfinished state’ refer to the colour brush work? Mary looks shining white. What sort of colour did he use on her?
The details in his painting are astonishing. Thinking of how far back that was it doesn’t seem possible. The brushes and paints of today are very different from what they had to work with then. I would love to see the great artists of Italy.

right on that you caught the ending of the exhibit! I am going to read more about it now from your link…
xxoo
how amazing
The last few day before the end of the exhibit, wow!
Thank you so much for the link, Gilly!
How beautiful. What an amazing things for you to have seen it in person!
I’m fascinated by restoration – such a delicate and occasionally hit-and-miss process. Seeing this is something to treasure – amongst all the other treasures you’ve accumulated in your travels.
Awesome. 🙂
Really stunning, Gilly. You photographed it very well. 🙂
It must be a special feeling to stand there and look at the artwork of the man himself — rather than just a print or a reproduction.
