A few weeks ago one of the blogs I follow had a post about photographing detail. I’m embarrassed to say I can’t remember whose it was 😦 but it struck a chord because I also love to capture detail. I enjoy looking for tiny detail when I travel. So here are just a few of my favourites from the last few years. If the blogger that inspired me reads this I apologice for forgetting your name so please let me know so I can link back to you!
I know this one is odd, it’s a temporary boarding to cover up some building work that they allowed a local class to graffiti, Lyme Regis, Devon.
A garden mirror that I loved but couldn’t afford. I used to do mosaics so maybe one day I’ll have a go at creating my own!
A section of tiling at Amer or Amber fort in Jaipur, Rajasthan. There was a whole room decorated like this.
Mother of pearl inlay on a mandolin.
20th century tiling in the Attaturk museum in Ankara, Turkey.
My notebook that’s all!
A ceiling at Dartington Hall, Devon.
A lamp, Riad Amiris, Marrakech.
Depiction of an ancient jug in the museum of Anatolian civilisation, Ankara.
I hope you like my detail photos, they are a mixed bag of ancient and modern from home and abroad!

Wow. Lot going on!
Love these photos! Maybe you are referring to my post about patterns and symmetry (http://photosfromtheloonybin.wordpress.com/2011/12/10/patterns-and-symmetry/), but I find there are a lot of bloggers who enjoy zooming in on details lately. I love the uniqueness of those types of photographs – when people pick the most unlikely subject and make it into a beautiful photograph. Great job on your photos!!
It was the one with the photo of the ceiling, Pattern Addiction that did the trick thanks for helping me to realise that I’m not alone with my addiction 🙂 🙂 🙂
Any time Gilly! We addicts have to stick together!! 🙂
love!
I don’t remember any of those patterns from Turkey 😦
But you would have noticed things that I didn’t!
really lovely Gilly ..and I remember that room in the Amber Fort at Jaipur!
Wasn’t it wonderful,I think it was called the Hall of Mirrors.
Do you know, when I’m taking photos, I often want to get close & see the detail. I’m not good at taking them so usually enlist the help of hubby who prefers the ‘bigger’ picture. I really like the way building that are having long term work done on them are now covered in attractive boards or sheeting. In York Minster, they put up a copy of the huge window they were renovating & on first glance you thought it was the real window!
Do you mean he helps you to take them or does it instead?
I love all the detail!
Thanks for looking! 🙂
These are lovely
