Lots to see in Winchester but I’ve tried to find some less obvious shots!

Lots of delights to be found, history on every corner, lovely water meadows in summer, unusual shops and best of all the choccy shop!
Come away with the raggle taggle gypsy-o

I love these photos, Gilly. Great job. I especially like “upwards again” and “towards the roof”. The perspective is so unusual. Thanks for sharing. 😉
Thanks Marcy, quite often the best views are up above!
Surprising how many people miss what’s up there, isn’t it?
The one thing I love about blogging is that I get to travel for free and meet people like you. Thank you for sharing your photos, they are wonderful.
BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!
Ah bless you Francine, I know just how you feel!
wonderful views of winchester, the arches and doorways, and your beautiful crazies, the figure in the buttercross, but somehow king alfred of wessex stands out, i must look up his dates and get my bearings in that dimension 🙂 thanks gilly!
He was one of the most important people in Englands history!
I loved Winchester, and feel like I just got to take another trip there. Where will you take us next?
Lots of choices up my sleeve!
Great little tour Gilly! Margie
I misread the caption of the river at first glance and thought you were showing us a restaurant called The River Kitchen 😀
I enjoyed the tour! Thanks!
Thanks for a peek at old brick and stone that men of long ago cleverly rearranged.
Lovely images! Thanks for the tour!
Wow. Lots of good photos! I liked the “buttercross” a lot- why is it called that?
thank you Jake, I think its because they were places where markets including dairy where held.
I love doorways too.
So many great sights! A few random reactions – why is it called the BUTTERcross??… For some reason I love the insanely precise details of exactly where and when you are around the latitude/longitude/time case… Awww, your crazies look so happy together…. Cathedral door – I love the interweaving arches – I can’t decide whether they look like tree branches or an upside-down basket….Guessing – Part of my mind wants to dredge up scraps of half-remembered Latin that I never did learn very well. Part wants to think these are much newer damaged or reused stones that once said things like “AMBULANCE” or “ACCELERATOR”. And mostly, I give up!
Someday, I’ll get another chance to visit England, and when I do I have to see Winchester.
Sharon I really hope you do return and Winchester is a must see, I haven’t even done touristy photos – the cathedral really is beautiful! In past times markets were held in town squares near a cross and farmers would bring their produce for sale, butter and cheese included!
Oh! Makes sense. 😀
What a great series Gilly…all of them are great shots. Question…your crazies ???
I didn’t want to push my luck, my daughter might get revenge!
As they do…
Gee – another walking tour with my eyes. Fabulous, Gilly. I love to take photo’s of chatherals, too. Your photo of this one is beautiful. The door that is red is a thumbs up. Those two crazies that belong to you – the number one pick of all of the photo’s. Thanks for the tour.
Toodles,
Izzy
Ah I love my crazies and I have a few more of them!
When we get some blue sky I’m going to photograph Exeter cathedral, guildhall and some more local history. I shouldn’t do Winchester and not my own wonderful city should I?
Awesome! I like seeing this architecture!
Enjoyed the tour and love, love the doors!
Gorgeous… all the things I love about the UK. 😉
