Banana Spam Nuttiness

Spam is becoming really  funny these days. Not funny  that it exists of course, but the lengths they go with it. In my early days of blogging I didn’t get the spam protection thing, why would anyone want to send spam my  way? I would get the odd few spam comments, but not take any notice or even delete them, they just sat there. Then I read how some peoples comments ended up in the spam box for no reason, so I started to check and delete it all. The volume has gradually increased, I wonder why? Is it because I have lots of followers  now? What do they hope to gain?

Here is some recent stuff, have any of you received similar ones?                                               Spam comments on my post ‘pets’

My brother suggested I might like this website. He was totally right. This post actually made my day. You can not imagine just how much time I had spent for this information! Thanks!

Very nice info and straight to the point. I don’t know if this is really the best place to ask but do you folks have any thoughts on where to get some professional writers? Thank you.

I and also my buddies have already been studying the excellent ideas from your website and then instantly I had an awful feeling I had not thanked the web blog owner for those techniques. These ladies had been for this reason very interested to study them and now have truly been making the most of those things. Appreciation for truly being simply helpful and then for getting certain incredible themes millions of individuals are really needing to know about. Our own honest apologies for not expressing appreciation to earlier.

You are a very smart individual!  Comment by ‘ banana nut muffins recipe’

I was recommended this web site by my cousin. I’m not sure whether this post is written by him as no one else know such detailed about my problem. You are incredible! Thanks!  By a name that is unmentionable!

I would like to express some thanks to this writer for rescuing me from this type of crisis. After searching through the world wide web and getting techniques which are not productive, I believed my entire life was gone. Being alive devoid of the answers to the difficulties you have solved by means of this guide is a critical case, and ones which may have badly damaged my career if I had not noticed your site. That expertise and kindness in taking care of a lot of things was tremendous. I am not sure what I would have done if I had not discovered such a solution like this. I can at this point look ahead to my future. Thanks for your time very much for the expert and sensible help. I won’t be reluctant to refer the blog to any individual who needs and wants counselling about this area.  By ‘Banana nut muffins’ again.

Keep functioning , fantastic job! bananas again.

I’ll do my best to keep functioning! All the banana people are from different IP addresses, seriously weird. My blog isn’t about food, I’ve posted one recipe here and that was way back, so why the muffins? So far banana muffins account for around 20 comments. What type of spam do you get? Please tell! I’m off for a daily delete now.

  1. Well several about viagra from ‘Canadian Pharmacy’ apparentlly! Latest ones are today are: ‘Habba Hotel’ a message from ‘Senga’ user and a message from ‘foursquare’ to say that Louise O’Sullivan is now my friend apparently – she’s going to be disappointed then!

  2. Is it just me, or has there been A LOT of spam in the last week or two?

Anyway, the Banana Nut Muffins love my website too. And I’ve got the “where to get professional writers” one, and the one that wonders if my post was written by his cousin. Several people want me to tell them how to get online grant applications. (Never knew I was an expert on that sort of thing! Maybe I should apply for an online grant for myself first?) Then there are the ones who thank me fulsomely for solving their personal problems (with my Weekly Photo Challenge post no less!?!), or the worried parents who are deeply grateful that my posts have helped their child – Lucien, Claude, Alexander…always a different name, so of course these must be from different “people” – anyhow, I helped their child to understand his homework assignment.

But perhaps my favorite spam just at the moment is the one from “American Airlines Junk Mail”!

    1. THere has been loads of it, the muffins keep on coming still and yes I’ve had lots of American Airlines too. Thanks for commenting honey 🙂

  3. Like you I am getting increasing amounts of spam. quite a lot from sex date sites, and most on a little video of the cat playing in the garden!
Today WordPress decided my answers to people’s comments were spam…

  4. I’m receiving about forty spam messages a day for Louis Vuitton handbags, and or escort services – a lot seemingly from the same username. No food related spam though, but all annoying. They have increased exponentially over the last few days. I’m sure it’s a test…

  5. I’ve been getting the same type of Spam. I’m really confused by the Banana spam and like you I just don’t get what they get from it.

  6. Holy smokes! I logged in yesterday and had 161 spam messages, mostly from this same Banana Nut Muffins thing. (And all for one blog post, “The Fire Within.”) Seriously, wouldn’t it be more effective if they spammed just one or two times per post? 161 times is kind of obvious.

  7. Madame Good day When i start at wordpress last jan 2012. i’m like a street beggar nobody visit my blog. like a hungry dog i bite even a spam, i try to read and digest the meaning of their comments. but that’s yesterday news. LOL Nonoy Manga

  8. Seems like we all get a lot of spam. What I find hilarious is are these spam messages on my photography blog. I am “praised” for my “lucid articles”, which is a bit strange since I only publish pictures and hardly any text!

  9. Hi – It’s Lesley here @gypsyles – I have journeyofthegypsy.wordpress.com as well as this blog – sigh… I will end up in your Spam box. Askimet has a severe problem mis-identifying spammers and I am trapped. grrrrrr 🙂

  10. I’ve had similar spam comments. I’ve had a lot more recently, but they mostly hit the same posting over and over again. Ludicrous and annoying!

      1. But they leave me positive messages and such… been tempted a few times to unspam but I fear what might show up after that so I don’t. 🙂

  11. Do you remember one hilarious episode from Monty Python? Enormous Vikings coming into a cafe and demanding Spam spam spam spam, spam spam spam spam —-
    It’s all silly stuff.

  12. Isn’t it odd??? I had 35 today. I love banana muffins and they are tempting me to make some. I get lots from American Airlines. I don’t even fly anymore. AND … that brother one – I thought he was so nice to recommend my site. I notice some of them are in code. Like a secret society code. The sex ones have come through, too. MMMmmmm … I don’t think I have written anything with sex in the subject. I was getting annoyed at first. Now – not so much.
Nice post about it , Gilly.

  13. My previous blog was spammed and I had no idea (I was a greenhorn). Finally had to shut it down and run for the hills. I started getting 300 to 400 spam a day! When I commented to the first few (being uncoached and ignorant), I opened up a yawning hole of frustration.
