It was difficult to avoid a sunset and sea photo for this weeks challenge but eventually I found this one. Over in Suffolk, if you walk south along the beach from Lowestoft you will find this church. It was something I’d never seen before, a church on a beach so even though the light was dull I snapped it for the memory.
I’m sure you can come up with a much better horizon, so why not post it at

You have some beautiful tones in this shot. Gorgeous!
Lovely pic, Gilly. I wonder how old that church is, and if it was always on the beach?
Beautiful Gilly. The sepia works really well. I think there are several churches on the beach in India. I know there is one in Chennai!
Gilly, that picture’s very seasonally appropriate as we move towards winter. I like it very much. As for original, even if there are lots of sunsets, mountains and beaches, I’m enjoying the beauty of virtual travel. 🙂 Have a great weekend.

What a horizon it is. The sepia lends itself to the supposed age of the church. I like that. This photo gives off a kind of forlorn air, hinting at abandonment.
Gilly, this is truly unique. I love it. Looks like it should be the cover for a novel.
Magic! so rare … yes I settled for a sunset 🙂
I love the colors and composition. 🙂
Yes, you’re right about the plethora of sea and sunset/sunrise submissions for this week’s challenge! I think the real challenge is coming up with something novel, and you’ve done it beautifully (and with a hint of sepia!)
Great choice!
Absolutely perfect 🙂
You’ve given us a shot to think about here, Gilly. Sara’s brief was interesting in posing the thought of a line, as well as the ‘interaction’ between elements. I really like the way the church has an etched outline in the sky… and also an appealing look of the beach that almost mirrors that of the sky. There’s that aspect about the architecture of churches / religious buildings reaching up, channeling energy to the realm above.
I wonder if it was a church for the mariners. It’s isolation creates
a mysterious look that begs for a story.
I’m glad you decided to go with your instinct to capture the moment.
Well done …. xoxo
I think this horizon is just swell. So atmospheric, almost in sepia —
Hmmm… Never really noticed that. It’s true. I haven’t seen a church that is exactly on a beach.
a lovely photograph, Gilly. so curious, a church on the beach.
what a great mood here, and a striking composition. thanks for sharing!
Church by the beach, uniquely beautiful. We got to pray while enjoying nature.
