This beastie, Fanny, lives and thrives in my front garden. I’ve never decided if I like her or not, but people often pause to look at her.
In recent months, she’s had her skirt shortened, because it was impossible to walk past her without being attacked by her thorns.
She’s already sprouting a new silver fan,
that will grow up like this one day
and she’s wearing some new jewels at her feet
which could be interesting if she’s part tryffid. She may have plans to dominate the local gardens, should I be worried?
Be worried, be very worried, Gilly!!
Yesss, I may have to call the fanbusters one day 🙂
😀😀
I had one just like it. I eventually cut it down, weary of its uncouth shape and refusal to do much more than keep on growing. The space is better occupied now.
I can see why you’d chop it, but this one can stay for now 🙂
I have one like yours, Gilly. It is growing fast. Her skirt is Getty short, too.
Oh do you know what variety it is Amy?
I really don’t know… look the same to me. 🙂 🙂
I do not know much about this plant – but looks pretty in the pics
An acquired taste I think Yvette!
🙂
yes – but might have the “show off” genes
hahh
That fan looks almost ready for some smocking 😉
You’re creative as always Myfanwy 🙂
😉
Does she make a mess? My neighbour has a Cornish Palm and in the autumn most of the dead leaves end up in my garden, drives me crazy having to pick them all up!
Not much Jude she doesn’t seem to drop many laves at all. She’s striking but isn’t in quite the right place.
She looks a bit big to move!
Looks like you’re doing a good job with the gardening, Gilly. 🙂 🙂 Seeing this just reminded me that I didn’t reply to your WhatsApp- sorry! The weekend galloped away with me. Much appreciated- will catch up soon.
It’s looking better, there’s still more to clear and then I have to keep the new plants alive and find more that I like.
No worries, I’m hopeless at keeping in touch aren’t I? Have a lovely week x:-)x
I think Fanny is very determined to show you who’s boss. 😅
You’re right there her spikes really mean business 🙂
Reminds me of what is called a Sago Palm in California where I grew up. My dad has them in his front yard and they can be very difficult if not pruned correctly and on a regular basis. They really seem to be like a weed of the palm variety. Some people adore them and others hate them. Not sure what your take is. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Renee, similar but this one has real fan shape leaves. I quite like it but it’s not in the best place!
I believe it is difficult to find just the right location for Palms. I wish you well as if you moved it that would be quite the undertaking.
Interesting shots, Gilly. Not sure what that is in the last shot…?
Thanks Jane, I assumed they were seeds, but perhaps unopened flower heads?
