http://jfb57.wordpress.com/2012/02/20/100-word-for-grown-ups-week31/

This weeks prompt is The Flip Side and you would have to be a certain age to get what I’m talking about but here it is!
Down the lane from the fields
The last few bits were thrown into the removal van and us kids went back to our rooms to check for left behinds. ‘It’s no good complaining you’ve forgotten something’, mum’s voice sounded sad, she’d been here forever and thought she would never leave. I saw her through my window, a basket on her arm, picking the bright red fruit for the last time. So much for Strawberry Fields Forever. Dad took her hand and led her to the car. I was last to climb in, with the coins I’d found. ‘Ready?’ said dad ‘Penny Lane here we come.’
I hope Mum felt better when she was sixty-four!
Excellent you got it thanks I thought everyone would think I’m crazy!
Very clever links there! I love both of those songs and am just the right age to remember them VERY well! You were quick off the mark this week!
I didn’t take part last week – just couldn’t get it and so I wanted to make sure I did this time. Can’t post the link until midnight though? way past my bedtime so I’ll probably forget!
Very creative Gilly. I liked it. Margie
Thanks sweetie 🙂
She’s leaving home …but with the kids this time 🙂 lovely gilly!
Thanks Christine, hahaha it seems I’m not as vague as I thought!
I like this very much G! Thanks for likes, I appreciate ♥
Thanks Anette and you’re welcome 🙂
Good one, Gilly. Told the story and the sentiment in 100 words succinctly!
This was a fun prompt, why not join in? 😉
Oh I remember well, my all time favorites, my heart still flutters for Paul
This sounds like a fun challenge… how can I join in?
Maggie I should have posted a link in the first place so thanks for reminding me. I think I’ve done it wrong so you may have to copy/paste but yes please come and join the fun, this weeks has only just begun!
This started out sad in the beginning and, all of a sudden, you zapped
us with the joy of new adventures to come. Very nice, Gilly. I like these
types of posts. They say a great deal in a small amount of words. ~~~ : – )
Yes … I do remember – I’ve been exposed.
Toodles,
Izzy
Not a bad way to be exposed though Izzy!
It’s quite fun trying to write something this brief and it makes me write fiction which I’m lazy about 🙂
nice tribute to the BEATLES …
Sussed again, I am so transparent!
Great story, and I agree with Izzy – I like the way it starts with a sad feeling and ends with the promise of new adventures.
You don’t need to be ‘a certain age’ to appreciate. I did a Beatles Day with a class of 9-10 years olds last year – not only could they name lots of the songs, but they were able to sing along to them too!
There is something very magical about those songs, I like Norwegian Wood best.
One of my neighbors in Boston was a huge Beatles fan, he would play their songs all day long. Very clever.
I’ve always loved the Beatles. This was a nice nostalgic take on the prompt.
I WANNA GO TO PENNY LANE TOOOOOO!!
well the barbers shop is full of photographs!
Lovely and touching. It is always sad to say goodbye, but a goodbye always leads to “hello, hello”. (Sorry, I couldn’t resist).
Very clever! (I tried to think of a way to get Yellow Submarine into this comment but I failed.)
My goodness you are clever aren’t you.
Loved it.
maybe now i will get throught…
Yep there you are!
Very clever! I bet it’s been a hard day’s night, but off they go down a new long and winding road… (sorry, lol)
A clever story , well told.
The Beatles have certainly let us with many priceless lines.
What a wonderful picture you’ve painted here, physically and emotionally.
For grown ups? What about for little ones? Just kiddin’ “)
Dropping by to stay hello 😀
Thanks for visiting my site 😀
*to say hello
Inigo there is a 100 word challenge for children but you are a little bit young for the stories yet, maybe daddy will write you some stories if you are a good boy and ask him nicely 🙂
Thank you for suggesting 🙂
I’ll be the Fool on the Hill!
Great post Gilly, really made me smile. Love it!
Thanks Louise, it was one that took five minutes to write – always amazes me when something just clicks into place!
Nice, a very clever touch, it made me smile
Well done word-play ! You know how much I like word-play. I will have to share this with a fellow English teacher who worships at the Fab House of Four. 🙂
Also thanks for visiting my blog. It is much appreciated.
Penny Lane I do remember! 😉
