Yesterday I had another Birthmonth day out, to a sculpture garden in North Devon. More about to follow about that, but for now I wanted to show you these few sculptures we found gathered in a small area. The first was a real double take,
But it fitted well with the rest,
Very dark don’t you think? especially the suicide bomber, a shocking interpretation of life and death.
Fascinating!
Astonishing. How long have they been there? 😮
Not sure, a few years I think, the artists name is Mike Roles.
Still, what a vision he’s had and portrayed.
Very dark indeed….whose work is it?
It says so much about the decay of Western life….
http://www.mikeroles.co.uk/index.php – fascinating though!
Dark but fascinating. I would love to know the drive to get them made and what their showing hoped to lead to.
The sculptor is Mike Roles.
Eerie, particularly the kneeling figure. Mmm…
they remind me of Vietnam after the end of the war … so much horror and strife …
Yes, they were grim but very thought provoking.
I really admire war artists, such a challenging job documenting the experience yet so powerful and potentially healing …
These are disturbing on a lot of levels, but only because they really depict reality, the ‘dark side’ of being human at times.
Very interesting work.
Certainly thought provoking. You couldn’t come away from a visit there without being moved to revulsion at man’s incredible stupidity. I love the wire fencing on the first one. Thanks for showing us these.
Thought~provoking and chilling statements, Gilly ~ all the more arresting because they are art. Thanks for an interesting post! 🙂
Intriguing! Gilly, are you back?
Chilling yes, but brilliantly executed Gilly! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Madhu!
Very dark indeed, Gilly, but so compelling in their message. The empty shoes and boots are the most intriguing to me.
I know, I didn’t get that one. The face in the ground was very strange and spooky!
suicide idiots now entering art?

I like some comments:

I don’t think the artist was suicidal 🙂
Very graphic indeed, grotesque but very very interesting art. I would love to see and appreciate myself in person.
I knew you would like it 🙂
Most disturbing. I don’t think I like these sculptures. // You couldn’t come away from a visit there without being moved to revulsion at man’s incredible stupidity. //
And I still don’t get the face.
I had to look closely at the first graffiti artist/vandal he looks so life like. You should’ve re-blogged this one to the creepy challenge…
Wow! These sculptures are true to human nature for sure Gilly. Thanks for sharing this link and for these stunning photos. My favourite is still the one under the ground. 😆 The one with the high heels and boots made me think of Puss in Boots. hahahaha!
