Tess they are almshouses, homes built for the poor and elderly in a community, some in England have been around for 800 years. They are maintained by charitable trusts who also decide who is eligible for one. This one is in Padstow, Cornwall but the are many in my city, even within five minutes of where I live.

Deceptive – my first impression was of modern architecture but the plaque tells a different story. The terminology may have changed but it’s a rather stark reminder.
