Serenity (noun):
The state of being calm, peaceful, and untroubled.
Cheri Lucas Rowlands has been to Hong Kong and was impressed by the serenity of the big Buddha in Ngong Ping, on Lantau Island. Cheri challenges us to interpret serenity in photos.
I’ve posted about St Peters Cathedral in my home town, Exeter, before and I probably will again. Today it was the first place I thought of as serene, what do you think?

It is a very special place!
Your subject could not be more apt. I haven’t visited this cathedral either! I shall put it on the list with Salisbury. An impressive vaulted ceiling and I believe it has a misericord with an elephant! Now that I’d like to see.
It does yes! St Peters is wonderful and I think it has a slight edge on Salisbury, add Chichester as well. 🙂

A wonderful collection of hometown shots. I think I’m a bit busy being awed by the first photo to feel serene! However, serenity comes somehow with vastness and space – beside the ocean, in the desert, in a cathedral, under a rainforest canopy. Can awe be a part of serenity? Is it in fact a necessary part of it? To be serene do you need to be surrounded by something larger than self? You’ve obviously captured me with your representation. Thank you on a cicada-y Saturday morning.

I wonder how they built these fabulous cathedrals with all of their intricate details and the lack of technology at the time these marvelous structures were build.
They must have been incredible skilful Marcy, it was nearly 1000 years ago!
With the limited tools of the day, those who constructed these cathedrals were miracle workers, if you ask me.

Exeter Cathedral is, indeed, serene. I love to visit it whenever I am in Exeter.
My favourite place has always been the Lady Chapel!
I am not religious at all Gilly, but I do appreciate beauty when I see it, and I’ve always been impressed with the beautiful architecture of Cathedrals, especially ones like these. Stunning captures! 😀 ♥

One of my great aunts and her husband lived in Exeter and were friends of the cathedral. Every Christmas their card was a different view. I wish we had kept them all, they woudl have been a remarkable record of a wonderful place.
I think the cathedral print their own each year, it would be a lovely collection!
