As the days get shorter, cooler and much more damp I can’t help but look back on summer and wish it wasn’t leaving. I’m not a winter girl, and the misty, drizzly start to today wrapped around me and lowered my mood for most of the morning. A similar low seemed to have invaded several others in my office too, with one person talking constantly all day, but only to himself and all negative.
I’m at home now and it’s a new month for Jude’s bench challenge. I’ve had this month’s entry planned since June – remember June? those wonderful days when the sun didn’t set until nearly ten pm? That’s when I’m happiest. To be honest September has been pretty good as well, with an adventure in Portugal, where I found some more benches and wonderful places to explore.
I think Jude will know this bench, I’m sure she’s sat there and if she hasn’t she will!
It looks quite exotic doesn’t it? St Ives on a glorious day is just that, and this view is certainly worth lingering over, especially if you’ve already bought one of those Cornish ice creams.
Well, I seem to have cheered myself up, my next challenge is to not be grumpy tomorrow 🙂

Grumpiness not allowed! 🙂 I knew this morning’s walk was a bad idea given the forecast, and sure enough, in open fields the heavens opened! I might even have rather been in your office with the mutterer. A very bedraggled looking group dripped into the coffee shop. Ah, England in October… but the Autumn colours are becoming sensational. Hugs, Gilly!

Lovely place for a bench sit with Cornish ice cream. 🙂 It’s rather grey and drippy here today. The weather definitely can affect our mood. I love that song from ‘Annie’ “The sun will come out tomorrow. Bet your bottom that tomorrow there’ll be sun. ” 🙂
Now imagine someone with the world’s flattest voice singing – uh ruining that lovely song, that’ll be me right now !

There have been times when I’ve wished I could stay grumpy a bit longer than five minutes, but I always fail!

and we have good old sunshine again.

Oh Gilly we are SO alike! I dislike the grey, damp days too and wish that those long days of June were with us all year round. But then again I do like our very different seasons and I’ll even accept the rain for the wonderful gardens it gives us. I dread the days when it is dark at 4 pm though 😦
Like you too I don’t do grumpy or the blues for long and I’m sure [crosses fingers] the sun will be back soon 😀
As for the benches, believe it or not I haven’t sat on those exact ones, though I have eaten lunch in the café below – twice. And expect to do so many more times. I have sat on a bench a little further down from this spot overlooking Porthminster beach. The café has a very pretty veggie and flower garden too. Thank you for bringing the light of St Ives into my life today.

Part of the reason I dislike winter is that I don’t get to see and feel the light on my face. For several weeks I walk to and from work in dimpsy light, so I try to walk at lunch if it isn’t pouring 😦

I loathed those days of getting up in the dark and getting home in the dark and spending all day under electric light 😦
At least now I can wait until it is light in the morning!
I think it’s time to plan a vacation (you don’t really have to go) to a sunny spot where you can kick back, read when you want, walk down new paths and create some new memories! DO IT!

Oh yes. Our summer weather has turned to cold nights and the leaves are finally changing into their colorful gowns. A wonderful last beach bench in summer to remember over winter. I’m not a winter person either. 😦
I’ve got worse as I grow older, it didn’t matter too much when I was young. When did I start hating rain I wonder 🙂 I hope this winter is gentle to you Tess!

I don’t mind the winter and Autumn is my most favourite season of all. You hang in there and know you’re not the only one that gets grumpy sometimes. 😆
How low do your temperatures go Sophia? To be honest it’s as much the short days as the cold that I dislike!
Not very low Gilly. We don’t get any snow here for instance and the lowest it can go is -2.
Nicely disposed palms, a lovely shady sitting place and great conversational body language. 35 here today and shade as precious as gold. A pity about the ice cream, but nothing else was missing.
