I’m reading Doris LAessing’s “Shikasta” and unfortunately it’s making me suspicious of churches and light. Not fair! It’s a powerful photo, and a reminder of both the length of a religious tradition and its brevity. But oh the skill of the builders.
Lessing! Although it’s a beautiful day here I’m bed bound with the obligatory northern hemisphere flu and feeling both incompetent and grumpy. Apologies!
Oh, Meg! What a shame 😦 Get over those sniffles soon! 🙂
It’s flying that does it. I always have a cold or flu when I have been on a long-haul flight, no matter which direction I go! Which is one more reason why I hate flying. Hope you recover soon 🙂
J is nurturing me and prescribing vodka and orange as a nightcap, waiting for it to descend on him. It’s mild – just a head cold.
I hate head colds, feeling all stuffed up. At least they seem to go within a week. Not sure vodka is going to help, though saying that vodka and Red Bull used to kick my migraines into touch! Probably the excess caffeine rather than the alcohol 😉
I’m in J’s hands on this because he’s left with everything to do. So I’ll drink vodka if he prescribes it.
Haha!
Oh poo, I hope you’re on the mend by now. I’ve heard that swine fly is back this year, but I had that in 2009 so I ‘m hoping I’m immune. Perhaps you could have a flu jab before next winter?
Flu jab was on the agenda on arrival, but flu got here first! No use in Australia because we were a season behind.
I’ve only tried one Doris Lessing and i couldn’t get into it, maybe just wrong book at the time 😦 Yes those workmen didn’t have the equipment that exists these day did they? I’ve been on the roof of the cathedral and can’t begin to imagine how they did it!
Inspiring!
Thanks Cindy, it’ an ancient building that can’t fail to inspire 🙂
Heavenly
Thanks Pauline, it’s such a beautiful building!

Often took generations I believe, stone upon stone.
Nice change of direction, Gilly 🙂 Your haiku is just perfection. Hope you’re having a good week.
Uplifting, both your photos and stunning photo.
Magnificent architecture and haiku. 😀 ❤
Wonderful capture, Gilly. The light is certainly heavenly. 🙂
I have enjoyed your haiku so much. Thank you for sharing, Gilly! 🙂
You haiku is wonderful and I think this Thursday effort is a smart idea. 🙂
