My Last March Bench

green circle benchWooden benches have been the theme for Jude’s monthly challenge, this is my second entry, just in time. This one is situated along the mill leat path, part of the riverside country park in Exeter’s Green Circle. The Circle forms a green corridor to provide a haven for wildlife, and cycle and peaceful footpaths for everyone to enjoy. If you sit on this bench the leat runs through the wooded area behind you and in front there is a view of the stream that runs off to re-join the river Exe. Sometimes that’s a tiny trickle through mud!

It’s a nice walk with lots of ways out to make it as long or short as you feel like, this bench is often a turning point before heading back to the quay for a coffee, beer or ice cream.

There is still time if you have a wooden bench to share with Jude, or from April 1st the challenge is to photograph a bench with a view.

The symmetry of wings

Symmetry(noun): the quality of something that has two sides or halves that are the same or very close in size, shape, and position; the quality of having symmetrical parts.

For this challenge, share an image of symmetry. Don’t limit yourself to architecture — you can bend this theme in any way you’d like.

A portrait of your twins? A window grille? The yellow lines of a busy road? A row of sharp points along a metal fence? Let the world inspire you. So says Cheri Lucas Rowlands at the Daily Post.

I rummaged through my photos looking for symmetrical images and failed – I’m the one who takes wonky horizons so symmetrical and I don’t really work!

Eventually it dawned on me and I hunted with a different eye. My photo didn’t need to be symmetrical, it could be the subject instead. So here are my choices, enjoy.

Hopeful Anticipation

This afternoon I went to Killerton with my family and had a lovely walk in bright sunshine – which was far from ideal for photos.  We did find this robin turning on the charm and posing for me!

Hey, up here, look at me
Hey, up here, look at me
I'll give you a twirl
I’ll give you a twirl
Aren't I gorgeous?
Aren’t I gorgeous?

And then William and Louisa agreed to share their raisins, so my son tempted Mr Robin by putting some on a branch.

Well, I'll just have a little taste
Well, I’ll just have a little taste
If there's no more, I'll be off then
If there’s no more, I’ll be off then
Oh, and thanks, please come again
Oh, and thanks, please come again

It may be December but . . .

. . . it’s still autumn here in the gentle south west of England, so you wont’ find any snow flakes yet.

At the weekend, I went strolling through the graveyard kicking at the leaves.
