A Bench for Conversation

As the days get shorter, cooler and much more damp I can’t help but look back on summer and wish it wasn’t leaving. I’m not a winter girl, and the misty, drizzly start to today wrapped around me and lowered my mood for most of the morning. A similar low seemed to have invaded several others in my office too, with one person talking constantly all day, but only to himself and all negative.

I’m at home now and it’s a new month for Jude’s bench challenge. I’ve had this month’s entry planned since June – remember June? those wonderful days when the sun didn’t set until nearly ten pm? That’s when I’m happiest. To be honest September has been pretty good as well, with an adventure in Portugal, where I found some more benches and wonderful places to explore.

I think Jude will know this bench, I’m sure she’s sat there and if she hasn’t she will!

St Ives BenchIt looks quite exotic doesn’t it? St Ives on a glorious day is just that, and this view is certainly worth lingering over, especially if you’ve already bought one of those Cornish ice creams.

Well, I seem to have cheered myself up, my next challenge is to not be grumpy tomorrow 🙂

Pop over and see Jude’s ‘Diana‘ bench if you can find it.

A September Bench

Jude’s bench theme for September is metal. When I first saw it, I thought it would be easy. Even when I posted a metal bench with unusual detail in July I didn’t think that September would be difficult – wrong! I’ve had my eyes open everywhere I’ve been for a month, looked through millions of my photos and was about to give up. Then yesterday I found this one, tucked in a dull corner, I was tempted to move it but didn’t think the National Trust would appreciate that! So I tweeked it a little and now I rather like it.

Jude will be sharing her own and other peoples bench, yours too if you ‘d like to join her here.

January’s Bench Dream

For a summer loving lass like me, a balmy hour on a garden bench surrounded by plants is perfect. This one is at Penshurst Place, near Royal Tunbridge Wells, taken last June.
bench hiding

Jude has created a new monthly challenge, a photo of a bench. She has discovered that lots of people have a passion for taking photos of them, and have many in their collections. I’m a one of those bench anoraks, as well as windows and doors! If you are too, why not pop over http://smallbluegreenwords.wordpress.com/bench-series/ and join in?

Jude says,

For some time now I have been photographing benches when I come across them. I like benches. I especially like them when they are placed in a convenient position, like half way up a hill, or on the top of a cliff, preferably with a view. Some benches have plaques, some have slats, some are made of wood, some are good (to sit on). So for the next year, as a new feature, I am going to post a photo of a bench/seat each week. So you can take the weight of your feet and relax and breathe…

Jude is a real garden lover, so she is kicking off the challenge this month with the theme of garden benches
