Secret, well can a place truly be a secret? Maybe if it is deep in a wilderness but otherwise? So my take on Ailsa’s theme is that I’m keeping where my photo was taken a secret. If anyone knows the answer that would be amazing!
I’ll try to remember to reveal the answer when I post for next weeks travel theme.
Meanwhile there will be some secret places here http://wheresmybackpack.com/2012/06/15/secret-places/

A hint would be nice 🙂 – I visited a similar looking place in Tajikistan so I will go with a guess that it is a ‘stan’ country. Hot or cold?
Hot in summer yes, but the only ‘stan’ I have been is Rajasthan, and it isn’t there!
😉
Great secret pic, Gilly. My guess would be somewhere in Italy.
No sorry!
A Caravanserai perhaps?
I should have known that you would get it Madhu! But where is this secret place?
Selcuk?
clever!
Thanks for visiting Rosa!
Gilly, I am staring at a picture of this very same Caravanserai from my Turkey album right now 🙂
Madhu!!! that’s amazing 🙂 🙂 🙂
It is!!! And thanks to you, I found images for my entry right next to it 😀 I had completely forgotten about those underground cities!
Putting 2 and 2 together, I’d say West Africa, Ghana. A castle to defend a claim on the country, or maybe Dahomey?
Sorry Tony but Madhu got it exactly right 🙂
Hi,
A magnificent photo, I would never have guessed where this was taken. 🙂
It’s a bit wonky for some reason! 🙂
I could never guess but I DO love the huge doors or is this some kind of gate?
It’s a door to the inner courtyard Tess!
fabulous capture Gilly…can’t wait until you give us some more information on this place…what it is, where, its history
I’ve meant to write about my journey through Turkey, time . . .
Ahhh yes – time. It bests us all at times…
I think you’ve interpreted the theme perfectly! Genius!
I must be one of 5 people on the planet without a secret place… 😉
No, say it isn’t true, eof737, I bet you do have a secret place, somewhere! 😉
Sadly, no. It’s a great topic though and has given me something to think about… 🙂 ✿♡✿Happy Father’s Day!
How about inside your head? invent one 🙂
Oh there are loads of secret places inside of me.. just not one physical place outside.
intriguing!
Thresholds always are!
How much fun is it that Madhu has the exact same photo! Don’t you just LOVE this WordPress community?
Oh yes, it really rocks I really love it!
I had to look up Caravanserai and found: a roadside inn where travelers could rest and recover from the day’s journey. Caravanserais supported the flow of commerce, information, and people across the network of trade routes covering Asia, North Africa, and South-Eastern Europe, especially along the Silk Road. Canadian singer Loreena McKennitt sings a beautiful song by that name!!
And Santana had an album by that name, that was where I first heard the word many years ago so to see one was amazing 🙂
I want to see one!! 🙂
Oh I do love your twist on this challenge Gilly. I don’t know this place, but I want to now. I’m jealous of you and Madhu. Can’t wait to hear more!
Madhu has posted on the next stage of her journey in Turkey, I’ll get round to it eventually 🙂
I would never have guessed. I’m glad that Mandu got it right so quickly.
You have the greatest photographs, Gilly. You never disappoint. Fabulous …!!!!
Oh bless you honey and you have so very many talents 🙂
Lovely photo, Gilly, maybe I’ll see it in person one day. Now that it’s been guessed – I wonder what you will choose for your next travel post 🙂
I should be travel writing instead of posting photos, heyho not enough time!
Now if it should turn out that Madhu and you just happened to be in that caravanserai on the very same day ——— and you wouldn’t have known it, of course —-
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Woo hoo!
Now that would be synchronicity!
A fort, colony in the Middle East?
Central Turkey, a resting place! thanks for visiting me!
I wouldn’t have had a clue of this place, Gilly.
It does have an air of mystery!
