Running Water
‘There you go my dear, now all you have to do is turn on the tap and you can have running water whenever you want.’
‘Turn it on whenever I want? That’s lovely.’
‘Now how do you manage about baths? You’d qualify for a council grant at your age.’
‘Oh I just fill the copper up in July, that’s my birthday I’ll be ninety two you know, and it doesn’t take long to fill my hip bath. Now lad I’m going down the garden to get some water from the well, so I’ll show you out at the same time.’

So sweet, Gilly. Old habits die hard, for sure. 😉
Oh yes… I know this person. And I like the inference ‘I only have a bath once a year, whether I need it or not’… Well done!
It’s so recognizable. Loved it.
My take on this week’s photo prompt (and my first):

A lovely story.
When you get to 92 you’re allowed to ignore helpful advice and only bathe once a year. At least that’s what I plan on doing when I reach that age!
A fine take on the prompt, Gilly. At his age, he has earned the right to be allowed to be just him. Mine is here: http://readinpleasure.wordpress.com/2012/07/27/fridayfictioneers-aqua-madness/
Love it…

Sweet story. I guess you can’t teach this old dog any new tricks.
Hi Gilly,
We’re on the same bathing plan here in the backwoods. You create an interesting character in a minimum number of words.
Ron
Nicely done =)
I giggled until I started to hiccup; I can hardly write this. Granny ignored the helpful lad in such a sweet way Here I go again…
big smile!!!!
Neat story. She’ll need someone to remind her from time to time she has running water.
Reminds me of older people I know who do things the same way forever even when their situations have changed (supposedly) for the better. Old habits die hard, as does this person, evidently, at 92. What an enjoyable, heart-warming story!
Love it – old folks, you can give them new equipment but you can’t make them use it! A funny story. 🙂
Once again you have stepped outside the box, Gilly, to write a great mini-saga, with an original twist! Excellent! 🙂
Too late to change 🙂 Lovely Gilly.
