Otterton in East Devon has it’s own mill, producing flour and powered by the River Otter. This is real flour, not the mass produced stuff we find in the supermarkets, but artisan quality and very tasty. They mill a few times a month and you can buy it FRESH in standard packs or larger sacks. I actually tried it, freshly milled and delicious.
This is my take on the Weekly Photo Challenge, join in at http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2013/07/19/weekly-photo-challenge-fresh/
I wish it was gluten free!
wow! These days it’s hard to come by good quality stuff. They are there but you will pay through your teeth. lucky you 🙂
Something I haven’t thought about is freshly milled flour. I so would love to bake bread with fresh flour. I can smell it now. Lovely photos, Gilly.
Such a great subject for this challenge! I never thought of fresh flour…I doubt others will either, as such mills are so few and far between now.
Love all your pics..especially the first!
Thanks honey!
Fascinating to see a little family run mill!!
Fresh flour must make some wonderful fresh baked bread. Good gallery in response to the challenge.
That would be something to try indeed. Nice and different take on most submissions for this challenge…interesting!
I recognise that man in the mill! And those lovely wooden beams in the ceiling..hang on, oh yes, i’ve been there and can confirm that the flour is fresh and kind of tasty!
It’s a good place to spot otters and beavers too!
Hobbit.
I am gluten free now but I can well recall the delightful hearty flavour of non-commercial ground flour. Fresh and way healthier that the regular supermarket stuff for sure. Thanks for sharing.
So interesting, Gilly – love to see artisanry like this – it is rarely found these days
I like this submission to the theme “fresh”. I would love to taste bread made from fresh flour. Yummy!
It would be lovely to have something like this nearby. I’d be a constant customer. Lovely shots, Gilly.

Great ‘fresh’ interpretation… love it… 🙂
Yum, and a great idea for both a photo shoot and a FRESH post. Well done!
Great entry for the challenge Gilly and such great captures! Love it! 😀 *hugs*
creative, Gilly, not to choose juice for this challenge!
Sounds really amazing, Gilly. Great pics of the old mill. 🙂
White haired or flour in his beard?
A bit of both I think 🙂
Can’t be fresher than that!
great photos Gilly…so how did the bread turn out from it
Wow, this is an exellent blog 😀
with beautiful pictures
An unusual approach to “Fresh” but it truly is … isn’t it?
Mmmmm … I can smell “Fresh” baked bread from the oven.
creative and perfect! Gilly. great pics.
I’ve always wondered who ever figured out that if you cut that long grass and grind it and mix it with other stuff you will get bread … how did they figure that out? 😉
Clever take Gilly. And interesting photos. Curious too about how the bread turned out 🙂
