This weekend I have visited the home of Agatha Christie, Greenway in south Devon. Greenway is set on the banks of the river Dart with fabulous views to Dittisham and Dartmouth, just a few miles from her birthplace Torquay. Dame Agatha and her second husband Max

Mallowan bought the house in 1938 as a holiday home.

Here are a few pictures of the inside.
While we were in the library we listened to a recording of Agatha’s son saying that it was his favourite room in the house. I think it was mine too it was very homely and packed with collections from around the world.
I’ll show you more of the collections and the wonderful gardens in a separate post. Meanwhile some upstairs photos and the back door with painting that I think is of Max.

What a beautiful home – yes, very comfortable 🙂
Great photos, Gilly.
Agatha Christie is one of my favourite authors… what a spendid place. I never thought to visit her old house, or if it were even possible, when I went to England many years ago. Thanks for the peak inside 🙂
Maybe you’ll be back one day!
yes and now I know a good place to visit thanks to your post 🙂
A beautiful place. I’m glad you shared it.
BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!
You’re welcome Francine 🙂
Oh, my, Gilly, I had no idea that toilet paper was ever packaged like that. Very interesting. And “medicated” too. Wow. Also, I think I remember reading somewhere that Agatha Christie is the only author whose books have sold more copies world-wide than the Bible. Have you heard that? I’m not sure it’s true, but I’m going to look into it a little more. I’d like to know. She’s good. There’s no doubt about that.
Very intriguing header photo you have up there currently. What is it we’re looking at?
It’s the first of five sections of a collaborative postcard. I did this bit then posted it to someone else to create the next section and. I also received one with one section and another with two sections completed, added to each and also posted. Eventually I will receive a completed one back to keep! Nice idea isn’t it?
Yes, it is. You’ll have to post the completed one when it’s all done.
I don’t think I’ll get my own back, but I’ll post the one I do get 🙂
What a lovely house – I especially like the photo of the dominoes. As if the family had just wandered away into another room a few minutes ago…
Yes very clever scene creation by the National Trust!
Stunning photography Gilly….Thanks for sharing this historical place my friend 🙂
Thanks Jake 🙂
Thanks you, Thank you, Gilly! I do love Agatha Christie. I reread many of the books periodically, and she can always catch me out, or delight me even if I do remember. So it’s fascinating to catch a glimpse into how she lived through your camera lens.
I’m glad you liked it, I’ll be back with some garden photos soon.
It looks so liveable … we could move right in … maybe update the indoor loo? Beautiful post Gilly 🙂
I could even tolerate the loo to have views from the house!
Another one to add to our list Gilly. I picked this up as we were heading home from an over night stay in Sidmouth!
I’ve been a couple of times and the garden is best in high summer of course, but for the house and views this weekend has been perfect. You would love it 🙂 combined with arriving by boat from Dartmouth.
So so amazing! To be actually looking at Agatha Christie’s home. Wow! And that toilet! Was that in vogue then? Because it has bearings to what pertains in some rural and even urban homes in my country. 🙂
It’s the sort of toilet found in wealthy homes back then. poor people would have had a bucket!
Wonderfully staged, Gilly. I love the tumbling dominoes and the settee in the library 🙂
Thanks Jo 🙂
Schöne Bilder liebe Grüße Gislinde
Thank you Gislinde 🙂
Don’t you just wish to live during those times, and even more daydreaming-ly be in a high class. 😀 Look at that house! Looks peaceful and so well designed.
