I went to the coast today, this is what I saw
and this is what I was inspired to write.
They stand tense in the knowledge
that feet giving way
would trap twist betray
one distracting sound that might pierce
the rage of ocean on rock
to knock them like dominoes.
each yearn to go further
to be the brave stepper
cheering risk taking surfers
while surreptitiously wondering
would the sea turn red
if instead of a wave
a skull breaks on the strand
Considering the dangers of our coastline I think your verse is spot on.
Amazing imagery in your words
Wow. Danger. Danger. Don’t go any further. Watch your step. Don’t.
How creative, Gilly. The tension is LOUD and fantastic. ❤ ❤ 🙂
Superb verse . . . and as ‘heyJude’ highlights very apt for our coastline. Been too many deaths this year by the sea.
Superbly darkly! 🙂
I like the photo almost as much as your words!
I love the way the scene ignites your empathetic imagination. You’ve really captured one possible way of viewing the sea, and probably the wisest. A lot of great lines and a rhythm that says so much too. The photo is superb, and b&w is both perfect and necessary!
Great image .. Easy does it on the edge!
Stunning, Gilly. The backlight is so beautifully captured. This verse, wow!
Fantastic image and a really darkly stunning poem, Gilly.
Love your title!(are you a fan of Ingmar Bergman’s films?) Your verse is great, and I agree with Meg’s comment
At the risk of being thought a complete Philistine, to be honest I’m no film buff. So while I’m sure I have seen Bergman films i have no recollection (I’ll hide now ok?)
Through a Glass Darkly…..
Great capture, Gilly. And I can see myself on that picture and from what you wrote. 😉
