Weekly Photo Challenge: Launch

I spent half an hour around a gang of teenage boys at the ramps who were swearing and well, a bit rough around the edges. I was conscious that I had an expensive camera and found it quite intimidating. So my shots didn’t turn out very well because it was getting dark, but you can still see them launching from the ground!

After a while some of these guys came over to ask why I was taking photos. They had never been photographed in action before, can you believe it? Anyway they seemed to decide I was okay and then started to show off their skills even more. I don’t understand how manage they to turn themselves and skateboard upside down and not only land with their feet back on the board again but to do it without breaking their necks!

  1. Nice! I’ll bet they are happy to have you back with better daylight. Coorperative subjects are so much fun. And kids. Ah, to be young and have no sense of fear.

  2. I think your shots turn out exactly the way they should have: with action.
Skateboarders are daredevils to me. They take off without any fear or
    worry about a broken bone. I ache watching them. ~~~ : – )
    Excellent submissions for the challenge.

  3. These are great shots. Fast movement is very difficult to get in the camera in a way that shows the subject without excessive blurring. I think you have done well. I know I need to take more “action” shots. I might need more equipment to get the best result because everything I have is for the beginner, so it is proving difficult.
    Thank you.

    1. Thanks Kate! Some of my best shots were taken before I had a dslr and more than three years down the line I’m finally getting to grips with using it manually. Your photos are really good, it’s more about the eye than anything else and you have it!

  4. Thrilling shots showing action in motion. Those dudes look like they are having such a great time. For a moment, when we soar up in the air, there’s that feeling that we can do anything and that all dreams are reachable. Fun post!

  5. I like image number 3.
It’s blurry, but you can see exactly what he’s doing.

Also, skateboarding is hella scary. I wish I had such skills, if I did it, my face would break!
