Anyone who has been following my blog for while will know that I love to look at the small details of a place or subject, especially when I visit a historic house. Last weekend at Cotehele was a real feast for my eye, so I thought I would share with you. I hope you enjoy this little gallery, click for a larger view and let me know which is your favourite!
The Italian chest is my favourite. 🙂
I think it was mine too!
I bet you wanted to take it home, Gilly. I know I would. 🙂
I love them all, Gilly. Such details!
I have two questions, Gilly.
1. Is that some kind of electric eye — or electric button — at the top of the bed steps?
2. How do you sit in a Welsh Chair? It looks complicated and very uncomfortable.
The white thing is a walkie talkie thing so the staff and volunteers can communicate between rooms – I think! I would have liked to try the chair but they all had strips of material tied across to prevent people sitting on them, but I think a particular shaped anatomy would be needed 🙂 either lots of personal padding or none at all!!!
oh the chest for me too GIlly, although the Welsh Chair was fascinating!
Imagine what treasures had been in there through time!
oh yes, treasures indeed, fine fabrics and clothing, diamonds and gold, precious china, armour, maybe even a crown or two!
I love that they’re all so different, Gilly, but I can’t resist the little tree finial on the bed post – too gorgeous! And that extraordinary tureen … wonderful treasures. 🙂
Bed Corner Post is my favorite 🙂
love it! The details are always lost in overall shots, so getting in close it a nice way to showcase things.
OMG imagine having to dust that bed…
Cotehele is indeed a feast of the eyes. So many beautiful and priceless treasures. Happy Sunday!
I don’t think I have seen a tureen quite like that before….just gorgeous!.
I don’t think I’d have much luck with those steps but they’d make a very nice stool because I’m not at all sure about that Welsh chair.
The brazier’s gorgeous and that tureen too. It looks a great place for a rootle around. Little bit far from my usual haunts. Shame! 🙂
