The weeks photo challenge is what I like to do most of all – journey! A journey for me is to be as far away from my normal world as possible, not necessarily in distance, but in culture, landscape, climate and experience. So the photo I have chosen was taken in Borneo, the greatest distance I have travelled, so far, and as this is in rain forest it’s really different from temperate England. This is the Kinabatanga river in Sabah.
Poisonous green snakes nestled in the trees and wild orang utans and proboscis monkeys were up there too. If you check out a post from last year you will be able to read more about this particular journey. https://lucidgypsy.wordpress.com/2011/05/20/nests-of-primates/

Wowzers, such an exotic location Gilly, world traveler!
Not as much as I would like honey!
“Poisonous green snakes nestled in the trees and wild orang utans and proboscis monkeys were up there too.”
You couldn’t drag me into that enchanted forest with a team of wild horses. (apologies for cliche).
Oh Tess you are so funny! Honestly it was amazing, I saw so many things (and got very sick lol) and would love to return. If you have time read the link i posted.
Oh you have read it,bless you!
You were brave and adventurous :). A very nice post!
Only brave when i had to sleep in my hut when a snake had been on my doorstep!
Ouch… I am glad to see you made it!!!
I like the trees, no poison snakes for me 🙂
I’m not fond of snakes either except maybe constrictors as they feel so lovely!
Just looking at that I can hear the bird calls and all those other jungle sounds! What a wonderful experience.
Thanks Jude, yes there was a constant orchestra in the background 🙂
Wow! That IS exotic!
It ws probably the highlight of my life travel wise!
Breath taking and lovely. So different from what I’m accustomed to. I mean, we have prairie rattlers which are poisonous snakes but no water or trees. Your photograph makes me feel like I’m there floating down a slow moving river.
It should have been peaceful but I was to excited to just sit back and relax!
The serenity of the landscape is almost tranquil. I suspect some type of mosquitoes repellent is a must, though. I could deal with the snake, less getting bitten, of course… but mosquitoes seem to think I’m the appetizer no matter how many people are around.
We were told that the Green snake was deadly, the kind where you have to get medical attention very quickly. It was twelve feet above my head! Of course the boatman could have been creating drama, who knows! 🙂
From reading your previous post I understand why you entered this photo. An amazing journey, indeed. A trip of this kind would be one in a lifetime for me. Thanks for sharing.
And thank you for reading 🙂
Were you on a boat??? And there are dangerous animals around??? Uhm … *swallows throat*
I was yes for an afternoon here! http://www.sabahtourism.com/sabah-malaysian-borneo/en/destination/28-kinabatangan-river/
Lovely photo. It really invites me to imagine that snake and monkey filled world.
How exotic it looks but ….!
Yes exactly, exotic means tropic and that means bugs!
Nice shot of an exotic river! I would love that adventure too. But not with my family, I guess … 🙂
Borneo is wonderful but I wouldn’t take very small children up into the rain forest either!
Another Great entry again Gilly ,Good Job 🙂

– a journey only for courageous people like you 🙂
It’s only the bugs and snakes that are scarey!
Oh wow! Great shot Gilly! It must have been amazing there! 🙂
It was amazing and felt like it was a little off the beaten track 🙂
Goodness, Gilly, that’s a little further than Lancashire!
Three turns round spaghetti junction, through the channel tunnel and you’re nearly there!
Borneo, wow, that looks so exciting – it reminds me of a scene out of Apocalypse Now!
Every day was exciting, the best bits were snorkelling (because I’m hopeless in water and it took all my courage) and the orangs!
Stunning photograph. A really beautiful photograph. Great post.
Sounds pretty scary to me! 😉
