About a year ago I was procrastinating over some study on a dull Saturday afternoon, so I decided to take my phone camera and see what I could find within five minutes from home. I always intended to post it, now I know why I waited, thanks Jake! To join in visit Jake here Here are my Heavitree surroundings.
In reply to http://traveller2006.wordpress.com/ here are the words around the tree guard in the photo below.
‘up tree up
sky remains sky earth remains earth
here we are human betwixt and between
sing pretty maids all in a row in a row
and pretty maids all in a row
the droves of kine and wide herds of goats
and flocks of fleecy sheep if she will she
increases from a few or makes many of less
what the hand to write?
what the ear to hear?
what proclaims the red sandstone of Heavitree?
The words sleep within rock to be brought to life
in yew deep rooted oak where stunned
horizons branch out
to meadow copse and housing estate
Oh Heavitree!
Wonderful surroundings. The streets are so clean. It must have been early with no or few people about.
BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!
No not early at all! Exeter is a very clean city, a wonderful place to live!
I´ve often thought about doing this, Gilly – photographs within five minutes – might make for a future monthly photo challenge! 😉
I´ve never visited Exeter, though I have passed near to it on my way to and from Cornwall/Devon, when I lived in England. Pity about that, it looks lovely.
It’s a beautiful little city -but I would think that wouldn’t I? 🙂
Stunning surrounded by old..What a lovely corner of this earth…
We have new as well but that isn’t as picturesque 🙂
lovely pictures from surroundings I am familiar with :-)…. seeing it makes me feel missing it. Unfortunately we can’t have everything, can we?
Ah yes how many times have you walked those paths? Heavitree misses Sylvia too 🙂
You live in a very picturesque pat of England, Gilly. Gorgeous. 🙂
Yes! It’s the best 🙂
That would be a “part” not a “pat”. 😀
great post; i love the protective fence around the tree. goats roam the countryside where i live, and this looks like a great way to keep them from destroying the young trees! presently they nibble them back to nothing, so the trees and shrubs become bonsais!
z
There are no goats in Heavitree – just the very occasional drunken yob 🙂
It’s sad to see trees eaten away but goats have been around as long as we have!
great post and I especially like the fence with words on it around the tree. Makes me homesick for the UK
Carol thanks, please come back I’ve posted the poem just for you!
