The Meon Valley trail wends its way through around thirty miles of Hampshire countryside on a disused railway branch line that ran from Alton to Knowle until Mr Beeching closed it down in the 1960’s. It’s now a lovely walk used as a footpath, cycle and bridle path. On Sunday my daughter and I walked for an hour giving baby Scarlett some fresh air.
There is an abundance of flora and fauna, we saw
a privet hawk moth which grows to 85mm and had a vicious looking horn on its rear end.
a Harlequin ladybird, an invasive variety that is a predator to our native ones
The walk was lovely, come along with me.
Enjoy a ride
Pick some nuts
and plan your next walk
I hope you enjoyed it!

What a beautiful walk. Thanks for taking me along with you.
oh the joys of the simple life, walking in the country … fresh air and creatures … lovely gilly!
Great walk … great photos…
Wonderful! It is amazing what a new grand daughter can show you!
Sounds and feels like a lovely walk with daughter and baby Scarlett. Thanks for the tour.
Lovely post Gilly.
I love the photo of the ladybird
A lovely spot, and not that far from where we live (we are in the north of the county). Thanks for taking us with you , Gilly, and glad you had a lovely day.
nice riding trail!
Oh, I had such a lovely walk and ride Gilly and those nuts were delicious! Thanks for the invite and now I am stiff and tired but happy. 😉
Love the shots you took! I must remember to bring my camera with next time.. 😀
*hugs*
I cannot wait to see England! We’re hoping to get there next summer right around this time. 🙂 Thanks for providing the map…it helps orient those of us who’ve never been there!.
Ok that horn sticking out of the end of that moth IS the most dangerous looking thing! yowzaa! But otherwise the trail looks serene and wonderful. 3 generations enjoying nature on a perfect day..simply the best!
Really? any plans where you’ll visit yet?
we just started looking into that. london of course, and my daughter wants to sightsee along the southern coast and over by where you generally are and hopefully up into the central part of the country too!. We’ll be there for at least 2 weeks so have plenty of time to poke around!
I know I’m biased but Devon is the loveliest part of the country – it’s where the English come. Next best is Dorset and Cornwall (which is a bit too touristy).
