Dartmoor in Devon is a National Parkthat has lots of exposed granite hilltops or Tors. The rock dates back to the carboniferous period and thrust through the surface around 280 million years ago. a variety of mineral ores have been extracted for centuries. Now we can see how it cooled into layers all those millennia ago.

Dartmoor is allready on our must see list for next summer! Great choice for Layers!
I’m such a city person, but I would so benefit from stopping to see scenery like this more often. It’s amazing how rocks can be stunning if you think about the history of them and how they formed and withstood any of our human meddling.
Some strong and solid layers, great response to the challenge.
A lovely choice for layers, mine is on a similar theme 🙂
Haunting and mysterious….layers of history
Oh, I’d love to see this, Gilly. I’ve heard of Dartmoor, and these rocks are amazing. At least I can experience this place through your photos. 🙂
Great photos, Devon is so beautiful 🙂
Fascinating the way those large boulders wind up like that. You captured them perfectly.
what a beautiful place – and a dramatic sky as a backdrop. a place i would love to see one day!
Lovely structures – looks like Pat-a-Cake-Man has been playing around up there, arranging pancake stacks.
Was für schöne Bilder wünsche dir einen schönen Sonntag liebe Grüße von mir Gislinde
big rocks laying on grass (?)
Fab! I’m going for Kilve so similar
Now I could certainly use those as inspiration……
Love those layers. They remind me of places in the American west and southwest.

Wonderful Gilly, we were thinking along the same lines for this challenge 🙂 You caught that special brooding atmosphere beautifully, it’s such a mysterious feeling place.
Such fascinating layers, Gilly. 🙂
Cool! Would love to see it first-hand. Excellent choice!
Intricate rock formations. Something I know will love to see.
Great interpretation, Gilly. I really should add Dartmoor to my places to go list…..
Great post Gilly! Some of them look as if they were just stacked !
Wow! That is spectacular. The layers of stone in contrast to the grey clouds, amazing!
it is beautiful Gilly…now…why can’t I ‘like’ any of the individual images dear lady ?
They do look man made! Love your moody shots Gilly.
Of rocks! 🙂
