Sara Rosso over at http://dailypost.wordpress.com/ says that ‘The proper definition of a silhouette is “the outline of a body viewed as circumscribing a mass.” In photography, often we achieve that effect by putting light behind the object whose silhouette we want to capture, effectively darkening out the features of the subject instead of highlighting them.’
I don’t know if this works but it’s the best I can come up with.
It’s either a photo that’s gone wrong or it just scrapes in as a silhouette, what do you think?
Do you have a silhouette photo to share?

it’s a gorgeous one!
Either way, it’s still a perfect representation of contre-jour. 🙂
I think its a beautiful photo. Looking through my photos for one to share.
BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!
I love this! I love those evenings when the sun is still shining so bright but the sun is low enough to create the most beautiful silhouettes 🙂 Thanks for sharing and taking this photo!

Perfect, Gilly. 🙂
I love the silouette in this photo. Make you wonder, as you’re looking at it NOW, what the future will bring…I can see it all. Am I wrong?
I really like it, Gilly. It has so many interesting things going on in it. 🙂
I don’t think it scrapes in–I think it nails it. I love the lampost on the walk most, somehow; it’s like it’s getting ready to take over. A question: is the bright light at the center the fading sun? I can’t tell (I’m not a photographer) but it almost looks like a flash against glass. Either way–it is beautiful!
Looks great to me Gilly. 🙂
Silhouettes they all are!
Dear Gilly, thank you so much for coming up with such wonderful themes for your challenges. Your photograph is really beautiful and when I chose mine I felt sort of sentimental and touched. Here is my entry, which i hope you enjoy: http://goomfh.wordpress.com/2012/10/20/weekly-photo-challenge-silhouette/ 🙂
I wish I could take the credit but it’s the Daily Post at WordPress not me! I love your photo and the story behind it!
Well, never mind! One of the things that I like about blogging is that I have met people who understand what I say and like it!
I think it’s perfect….
That’s because you are a star!
Sunshine and silhouette – perfect, Gilly!
I say it works!
I think it’s fab whatever the definition!
Wow! It works for me! Wish I were there!!!
Very lively photo with the silhouettes of people and animals.
Right on target, Gilly. Sunset with figures approaching – perfection.
Excellent post for this week theme Gilly on photo challenge 🙂
Well done Gilly!
Definitely not ‘gone wrong’. A nice end-of-a-great-day shot.
All I know is that it is a cool photo, so it works 🙂
I love it. There’s the beach, the people that is important to us, the Sun, the moment. Beautiful capture.
it certainly works. the lighting is surreal, and the mood is great. thanks for sharing!
More than works for me 😀
That’s a lovely beach scene!
I think it is a bit dark, Gilly, but then, it is a silhouette
it more than scrapes in Gilly…it is dramatic and makes you want to examine it and discover what else is there
Gorgeous shot Gilly! 😉
