Today is Remembrance Sunday in the UK. It’s always the second Sunday in November and is the day when we reflect on the courage and sacrifices made by our servicemen. One of the most moving experiences I’ve had while travelling was visiting Gallipoli, where thousands lost their lives. My photo shows a statue of a Turkish soldier carrying a wounded allied captain to safety on Pine Ridge, a true incident. I think it shows a compassionate connection between the two.
NEVER FORGET

so sad, war, when we are all human beings who would rather care and share …
Bravo !!
A most moving image for the challenge, Gilly. So many brave and precious lives were lost.
The statue is wonderful. I hate war but it seems if one finishes there another going on somewhere. What a waste of human life.
What a lovely tradition! I hope we do not lose all of our’s here in the states! Commercialism seems to be the norm here …..
Krieg ist so schlimm und Traurig wünsche dir einen wunderschönen Sonntag und eine gute neue Woche liebe Grüße und Freundschaft.Gislinde
This is a wonderful post, Gilly. We need to be reminded continually of what it costs to keep us free.
I have a postcard of the commando memorial at Spean Bridge in Scotland stuck on my fridge. My father, a royal marine commando, survived the war, but many of his colleagues did not.
We visited Gallipoli too in 2009 when we went around the western side to Turkey. That place has so many memories of wars flight by such brave people. The stats were astounding.
Happy Remembrance day to you, Gilly.
Amazing how a call of duty rules over your own needs, even your own life in the service for many others.
had to come and check out the original – and thanks for inspiring me with this concept challenge on TS
This is a moving sculpture, Gilly. I think it was a great idea to use it in your conceptual photography post. Thank you for showing the original.
