Weekly Photo Challenge: Urban

This photo is very wonky because I took it hanging out of a hotel window!

Bursa is on the old silk route in north west Turkey and was once the capital of the Ottoman Empire. It is one the the largest cities in the country and very  industrialised. At the same time it is a very green city with lots of parks and gardens. The surrounding area is forested and mountainous, the mountain in the background is Uludag, the ancient Mysian Olympus, about ten miles outside the city.

This is my entry to the challenge, if you would like to see some more visit http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2012/08/24/weekly-photo-challenge-urban/

Travel Theme: Silhouette

I love silhouettes but don’t really have a true one. This is as close as I can get. A picture of my friends taken in Kota Kinabalu looking towards Tunku Abdul Rahman Park islands.

There will be more to see over at Ailsa’s place, http://wheresmybackpack.com/2012/08/24/silhouette/ her own are superb.

Music in Pictures Contest: Better Days

Visit Elisa and join her new photo challenge, this week the song is Better Days, the soundtrack of Eat, Pray, Love and she has posted song here http://autumninbruges.wordpress.com/category/music-in-pictures-contest/

I took this picture in Ghana on Easter Sunday where they were celebrating the resurrection and better days to come, as they paraded to church.

I thought I would also add that my Nigerian name is Nkeiruka, it means bright future or the best is yet to come!

100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups Week# 55

Julia has been plotting this one for weeks, threatening a really tough challenge and even cackling about it. So we have to write the words that go with this picture!

A Cat in Need

Meow,

Dear human lady person who cooks chicken and salmon for me, please come back straight away. It seems I need you after all, because the beer person keeps throwing dry brown things into my bowl, instead of the gourmet delights you so sweetly prepare for me. And now he has done something to my head, because he’s too lazy to pamper me with the silver hairbrush, I have a scarf that smells like rabbit and something from a Christmas cracker over my eyes. He keeps talking about a Cats Protection League and looking at me strangely. Come immediately.

Meow.

Story Challenge: Letter ‘H’

Frizztext’s challenge is H this week and he asks that we  ‘share a story or a short reflection tagged with the letter “H”? For example I’ve written about HONG KONG (watch below) or about HONEYMOONERS, about HORSEs, HIPPIEs and HYDRANTs, about HANGING, HAND BAGS and HATS, about HA LONG BAY, HANDS or HIPPOs, HOLIDAYS or HAIRDRESSERs, “HIGH FIVE” or HOBBIES, HERRINGS or HOUSEBOATS, HOT PANTS or HANG GLIDERS, HAITI or HOLLAND etc. – I’m sure you’ll find an own story or a short reflection tagged with “H”! Feel free to add in the comments the link to your personal interpretation of the letter “H”!!!’.

So I’ve chosen hats, men in hats to be precise. It began last night when I caught an interview with Larry Hagman on TV in advance of the return of Dallas to  our screens. He was wearing his trademark Stetson, a little beige number made from beaver which apparently cost five thousand dollars, an obscene amount of money.

Because I’m a crafter I go to lots of country shows and village days in summer and there are always men in hats to be seen. Here are three that amuse me, hope you like them too.

Sunday Post: Black and White

It’s Jake Day! and the theme is black and white. I like black and white but generally not when I try it.  My all time favourite photographer, the late James Ravilious, worked in black and white. He was a local man, here is a link to some of his photos. http://www.jamesravilious.com/gallery.asp he captured everyday life in a period of great change.

My photo started life in colour and I quite like the change because of the different textures, including the sky.

Hop over to http://jakesprinters.wordpress.com/2012/08/18/sunday-post-black-white/ for some more interpretations.

Ooh, WordPress has just told me that this is my 300th post!

And I have to add this photo for Jo Bryant!

100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups Week# 54

I’m really late for Julia’s challenge this week. The prompt is ‘Legacy’ , the fourth in a series of Olympic themes, but people may have interpreted it in different ways. Check them here,

Oliver’s Legacy

Dear Oliver

You know, I wept every day for six months, I was so lost.

And now I’m angry. If you had had a car accident or even been attacked it would be different, but you had a choice, and you put diving first every time.

You said it was safe, no one died jumping off a high board. So what do you do? Get your Gold and then fool around, one step too far.

I can’t undo what’s happened. Olympia has arrived now; she looks at me with your eyes. Your legacy, but she will be frightened of water.

Travel Theme: Sunset

Ailsa has pushed my buttons this week, who can resist a sunset shot? As I have several on Lucid Gypsy, I had to try to pick something other than landscape. This one was taken in Pushkar, Rajasthan, at the Sunset Cafe a popular place to watch the world go by.

Visit http://wheresmybackpack.com/ to see beautiful sunset shots from around the world.
