Weekly Photo Challenge: Changing Seasons

If I had my choice I would only have one season – summer, like Cat Bird in Oman has! Having said that, it’s December and we have only had two or three frosts so far. Cheri Lucas at The Daily Post has asked us to share a picture that means changing season to us, but I couldn’t think how so I’m posting all four seasons.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Reflections

Cheri Lucas over at the Daily Post says ‘This challenge is about using reflections in the composition of a shot. Reflections are all around us, whether they’re in a window, a puddle, a mirror, or another surface. They can dramatically affect the feeling and mood of a shot by creating a surreal sense of duality.’ Visit http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2012/11/30/reflections/  to join in. Here is my interpretation. Alder reflection

Weekly Photo Challenge: Thankful

Okay I may not be very popular with these darlings and it’s a first for me to post a photo of them but  it’s because I’m THANKFUL! Thankful that they are mine and they are there for me. Kids, I love you and I’m very proud of you!

What are you thankful for? share it on http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2012/11/23/weekly-photo-challenge-thankful/

Weekly Photo Challenge: Renewal

For this weeks challenge I have chosen a photo taken on Exeter Quay. It is a railway turntable that has been ‘renewed’ to make a seating area. It’s actually full of history,  a rare example of Isambard Brunel’s broad gauge branch line built in 1867. It carried both broad and narrow guage track along the canal basin. Isn’t it great that it has been preserved and renewed?

Weekly Photo Challenge: Geometry

There are some very clever tips at the Daily Post today http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2012/11/02/weekly-photo-challenge-geometry/

Now, I’m sure the geometry was accurate in these three very old cathedrals but sadly craning my neck and holding a camera still and straight has made them look a touch wonky! Here is Gloucester cathedral.

Chichester

and last, the best of all is Exeter

check out the fan vaulting in my earlier post if you don’t believe me! https://lucidgypsy.wordpress.com/2012/04/28/exeter-cathedral-2/

And here is a newbie with a lovely quilt!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Foreign

Sara Rosso says `Foreign. While foreign (rightly so) often brings up images of things outside of your own nation, it can also apply to things outside of or different from your normal environment, or even something which is out of place in general.’

Foreign is fascinating, if it’s different I’ll love it and want to experience it, so this week the challenge is fab as far as I’m concerned. The photo I’ve chosen was taken in . . . any guesses?

To at least one blogging friend this isn’t foreign and I know that a fair few of my visitors live there!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Silhouette

Sara Rosso over at http://dailypost.wordpress.com/ says that  ‘The proper definition of a silhouette is “the outline of a body viewed as circumscribing a mass.” In photography, often we achieve that effect by putting light behind the object whose silhouette we want to capture, effectively darkening out the features of the subject instead of highlighting them.’

I don’t know if this works but it’s the best I can come up with.

It’s either a photo that’s gone wrong or it just scrapes in as a silhouette, what do you think?

Do you have a silhouette photo to share?
