Gilly, I love this lonely gate post. Small relics like this add as much to a landscape as any structure.
To the familiar they’re route markers, to others a reminder of mans husbandry over many generations. A bit of a back-scratcher for a pony!
Do you touch this old post as you walk past?
I can’t help but wonder how old this post is, or how much of life’s goings on it has witnessed over many many years. I’m sure, if it could talk, it would have wonderful stories to tell the world. Thanks, Gilly!
I haven’t a clue why but when the photo first showed I thought the piece of wood was a head. hahaha Ouch …!!! Stunning clarity in this one, Gilly. Contrasting near and far; soft green and hard grey; wrinkled old and freshly new are wonderfully appealing.
the old post and fittings tell quite a story, lovely gilly!

I did Tony, I like to imagine the stories of such things from the past, how many hands have gripped it as they pass!

The wood must be very old, and the stone is granite that’s been on the moor since way before mankind walked on this soil!
Gilly, how clever – a mystery post!
Excellent, you’re the clever one Sharon!
