Jakes Sunday Post: Concept

Jake says ‘CONCEPT – something thought or imagined: something that somebody has thought up, or that somebody might be able to imagine, Broad principle affecting perception and behavior: a broad abstract idea or a guiding general principle, one that determines how a person or culture behaves, or how nature, reality, or events are perceived the concept of time Understanding or grasp: the most basic understanding of something has little concept of what is involved, Way of doing or perceiving something: a method, plan, or type of product or design.

So the challenge week is to come up with an interpretation of this – difficult eh? If I had known yesterday how useful these photos would be I would have tried harder, taken more time and well – shoved people out of the way 🙂 Anyway I hope you get the gist.

2012 Dec 08_2250I think this is my favourite. I learn to sew on a very old treadle machine when I was a small girl.  What an incredible concept from My Singer and how different the world would be without sewing machines.

Jakes Sunday Post: Peaceful

When friends and family come to stay they always leave relaxed, de-stressed and at peace, so of course I’ve chosen the Devon countryside for Jakes challenge.

Where these photos were taken, on Dartmoor, there is no noise, the only sound you will hear is the whistle of the wind, the odd sheep and some bird song and definitely no traffic!

Jake’s Sunday post: Natural Resources

A difficult one Jake but I hope this works!

Just as it says, this is 100% wool felted into Dori cord. The wool comes from New Zealand and it is felted in Nepal and dyed using plants like senna, madder and indigo.

Nepali wild Hemp, linen from India and Giant Himalayan nettle cord and thread. All in its natural colour and hand spun in Nepal.

New Zealand wool again, dyed in Nepal with Rhubarb, Pomegranate, Madder, Myrobalan and Indigo.

Jake’s Sunday Post: Architecture

I love architecture, the differences around the world and thoughout history. I’m a small city kind of girl, so when I visit somewhere like Kuala Lumpur I’m bowled over. Here is a view of some of KL’s architecture taken from the KLTower – an amazing building itself.

Jakes Sunday Post: Surroundings

About a year ago I was procrastinating over some study on a dull Saturday afternoon, so I decided to take my phone camera and see what I could find within five minutes from home. I always intended to post it, now I know why I waited, thanks Jake! To join in visit Jake here Here are my Heavitree surroundings.

In reply to http://traveller2006.wordpress.com/ here are the words around the tree guard in the photo below.

‘up tree up

sky remains sky earth remains earth

here we are human betwixt and between

sing pretty maids all in a row in a row

and pretty maids all in a row

the droves of kine and wide herds of goats

and flocks of fleecy sheep if she will she

increases from a few or makes many of less

what the hand to write?

what the ear to hear?

what proclaims the red sandstone of Heavitree?

The words sleep within rock to be brought to life

in yew deep rooted oak where stunned

horizons branch out

to meadow copse and housing estate

Oh Heavitree!

Jakes Sunday Post: City

It’s Sunday so it must be Jake day and his theme this week is City. He says that a city is a ‘large center of population organized as a community. The word city is derived from the Latin word civitas, which denotes a community that administers its own affairs. In ancient Greece such an independent community was called a city-state; it consisted of a chief town and its immediate neighborhood. The cantons which constitute the Swiss federation are not unlike cities in this sense. During the Middle Ages a city was usually identical with a cathedral town; accordingly, when King Henry VIII of England established new bishoprics in boroughs, he made these into cities. In modern Britain city is merely a complimentary title conferred by the monarch on important towns.
In the United States a city is a chartered municipal corporation. Charters are granted by state governments according to requirements prescribed by the legislature of that state; a city must usually attain a certain population before it can be granted a charter. City charters vary in the degree of power they confer on the municipal authorities, and the measure of local autonomy is usually, although not always, regulated by the number of inhabitants. The chief executive officer is generally a popularly elected mayor, but many cities now have professional city managers.’

This is Bergamo, in Lombardy, Northern Italy. It has a population of 120,000 and lies at the foothills of the Alps, about 25 miles from Milan. Jake would love it if you joined in, http://jakesprinters.wordpress.com/2012/10/20/sunday-post-city/

Jake’s Sunday Post: Toys

Toys, uh quite a difficult one, so I’ve decided to go with bike! My granddaughters Disney Princess bike which she had for her last birthday.

Jake’s Sunday post: Delicious

I wonder how many similar photos to mine there will be this week! I have just been for a walk by the river and decided to finish with a hot drink in the Coffee Cellar on the quay.

They always have divine home made cakes, but I managed to resist this time! Inside is lovely, they have comfy sofas and dogs are welcome but today was just warm enough to sit outside and people watch. Another other nice thing about the Coffee Cellar is that when they make you hot chocolate the put the bit that won’t fit into your cup into a little jug. My friend had the full works with cream, for me it’s just the marshmallows.

Thanks Jake for your DELICIOUS challenge!

Sunday Post: People

People, I don’t take that many photos of groups of people, but that’s how I have interpreted the challenge. A group of fledgling people.

People who one day will

Heal our sickness

Grow our food

Stitch our clothes

Build our homes

Drive our trains

Clear our drains

Rule our world

And until then

Make us smile

This is for Jakes Printer perhaps you will visit to see his animations?

The Sunday Post: Autumn

Jake has posted some rich autumn colour in his animation for the challenge this week

Here is my entry for autumnBut I don’t think that summer is over yet

There are plenty more of these guys for a start!
