The 3 Day Quote Challenge

Jo’s 3 day quote challenge was the first I came across and I thought oooh I want to do that one. So I begged her to pick me (in fact my bottom lip was out because she didn’t pick me first 🙂

Now I wouldn’t mind some help getting rid of these today,

but, the chances of that are zilch, so Instead I’ll remember the great Audrey Hepburn’s words.

Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, it’s at the end of your arm, as you get older, remember you have another hand: The first is to help yourself, the second is to help others

What do I like about these words? Well it’s a reminder that I’m pretty resilient, and to be kind to those who are less so.

The rules of the challenge are simple,

Thank the person who chose you, cheers darling

Post a quote for three consecutive days

Pups and poems

I seem to be having a bit of a blogging slow down at present. It’s been a busy few weeks, with a christening, quite a few hours of Saturdays spent driving and a failed sandal and summer clothes shopping trip. Two of my friends have been struggling with health problems and of course there’s work . . .

Add to that an eleven month puppy boy, who needed to become  bit less boy!

George has been house bound for a week, with a plastic collar to stop him licking his wound, and almost constant surveillance to stop him jumping around like the crazy adolescent he is. The problem  is that Flora is very keen to help lick him better, so sometimes she’s been wearing a collar too.

He’s allowed a 5 minute walk a day now. He doesn’t reckon much to walks, he likes a drive to the river or valley park, around 10 miles running to my 3 mile walk and when he’s a little tired he’ll walk back to the car. Flora is more than happy to walk on her own and behaves beautifully while he mopes and howls at home. One more week and he should be back to normal.

I’m sorry if I haven’t visited you for a few days. When I have opened my reader, all I’ve seen is the six most recent posts and a white question mark in a blue circle, has anyone else had that problem?

I’ve just remembered i should be asking Meg’s permission to use her photo. Meg can I print your photo to A4 size please nicely? I’ll credit you of course. I’m reading two poems at this thing on Saturday evening, or more likely, I’ll persuade my friend to read them because I’m shy.  Both poems were inspired by a photo, one Meg’s and one mine, so I’d like to be able show them. Before you ask, the poems are already on this site somewhere, before the most recent edits!

I’m hoping for a peaceful weekend, a three day one as well because Monday is Mayday bank holiday, hooray. We may even get a little hint of summer, so I’d better try again with the sandals, oh the troubles big feet bring.

Have fun my lovelies.

Ancient lines

After seeing this weeks photo challenge, I began thinking about different types of lines, in a sleepless hour the other night. The next day I found the lines of tiles that I posted on Friday, man made, twenty first century city lines.

My mind wandered to ancient lines, and lines that may or may not actually exist, ley lines.

If you believe they do, this is one place where you may be close to one. If you don’t then these stone rows are Neolithic or bronze age.

The lady in the hat with lines is Christine of Dadirri Dreaming, she was very happy to be there in that ancient land. She was a dear friend to many of us, who died in 2014, a few weeks after this photo was taken.

Millenium Lines

The Guildhall shopping centre in Exeter was created in a historic area right in the middle of the town in the 1970’s. Although there’s a lot of concrete, there are a few little gems ,like the tiny church of St Pancras, first recorded  in 1191 and the former Turk’s Head tavern building that’s at least 700 years old.

A mosaic was created, for the shopping centre at the turn of the millennium, by schools and community groups. Somewhere around a thousand 10 cm wooden squares were decorated and mounted in eleven lines on a shop wall.

Wouldn’t it have been nice to be involved in something like that, and still see your square eighteen years later?

This is my post my the weekly photo challenge of lines.

CPW’s Picture prompt

Once upon a time I was a writer, but now i don’t know how. So I plan to reblog things I posted before and maybe even things I’ve written in the past and not shared. I hope that this will inspire me to get back to regular writing, not just a poem written in ten minutes to take to writing group.
So here’s a post from 5 or 6 years ago . . .

Last week I went for a lunchtime walk with Crazy Polish Woman who complained that my blog is full of photos and not much writing these days. I explained that I have to keep my best writing for the course I’m studying, and to build up a body of work, but I do try to do the 100 word challenge most weeks, because flash fiction isn’t too trying.

Back at my desk she emailed me this picture, with the question ‘What is happening here?’

The picture, by Charles Sims is called ‘and the fairies ran away with their clothes’ . But this is what I think is happening, what do you think?

Small Saboteurs

Now my love I want you to listen carefully.

You see these pretty little creatures at my feet? Well they are my small saboteurs and they lived with me for a long time. In the beginning they…

Sloe gin a plenty

If the amount of blackthorn flowers is anything to go by, there’ll be plenty of sloes this year. Has anyone ever made sloe gin, I bet Tish has.

The river and mill leat area is my favourite place to walk the dogs at the moment, it’s filled with wild flowers and the sound of birdsong, there the blackthorn is prolific.
